India launches new (chip-Include) e-passports to facilitate global migration
"In fact, Passport Services is a constant effort of the Ministry to improve all the civic services we provide and to introduce new features and facilities in our Passport and Passport services," MOA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Thursday.
"As early as 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that work was in progress to issue the next generation of chip-enabled e-passports to Indian citizens under the centralized system."
The personal details of the applicant will be digitally signed and stored on a chip and then included in the passport booklet. If someone misuses the chip, the system can identify the cause of the passport authentication failure. This will make it difficult to forge passports and facilitate unimpeded immigration for travelers.
The government has given permission to the India Security Press (ISP) in Nashik to purchase electronic contactless decorators for assembling e-identifications. Government Press is a subsidiary of the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL), a public body of the Government of India. As such, the ISP has acknowledged NASI's leading the worldwide delegation to acquiring the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)'s accepted electronic contactless channels - along with the working framework for the development of e - identifications. Development should begin after the effective fulfillment of the delicate and earning process of the press.
